In December 2009, Amanda began working as the founding director of the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships and enjoys enthusiastically advising GVSU students and alumni who aspire to compete for nationally prestigious scholarships and fellowships. She is committed to helping students discover, dream and pursue their destinies.
Prior to becoming director, Amanda served as the Pre-Professional Advisor in the CLAS Academic Advising Center at GVSU and as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and the Medical Scholars Program (MSP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), one of the nation’s largest MD/PhD Programs. She worked with over 150 MSP students pursuing PhDs in over 30 academic disciplines including the traditional biomedical sciences, engineering, the social sciences & humanities, as well as business administration (MBA) and law (JD). Amanda received her B.A. in Communication-Speech with Honors from the University of Texas-Pan American, M.A. in Speech Communication with a minor in Student Affairs from Texas State University. She is pursuing her PhD in Higher Education-Student Success through Azusa Pacific University.
In 2013, Amanda received the Outstanding Academic Advising and Student Services Award, in recognition of her appreciative approach to working with students at GVSU. Amanda also serves on the national Appreciative Advising team and trains other advisors and administrators on the Appreciative Advising approach.
