Grand Valley Senior Participates in Harvard Stem Cell Program

Grand Valley senior Craig Russo was just one of 44 undergraduate students from across the country to take part in the highly competitive Harvard Stem Cell Institute Internship Program over the summer of 2013.  Russo spent 10 weeks from June through August at the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Regenerative Medicine where he conducted research on the neural mechanisms underlying psychiatric illnesses.  Read more.

Grand Valley Student Attends Specialized MIT Program

Allie Bouza, a junior chemistry major at Grand Valley State University, was selected to take part in the prestigious ACCESS program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in September.  The ACCESS program at MIT is intended to increase the diversity of qualified applicants to doctorate programs in chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science throughout the U.S. Read more.

Alumnus one of two Americans Named Erasmus Mundus scholar

Grand Valley alumnus Kris Cortez, ‘11, ‘13, has been accepted as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar in the Transcultural European Outdoor Studies program from the University of Marburg, Germany, and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences in Oslo, Norway.  The study program will begin at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside, UK, in September, and will continue at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences and the University of Marburg through August 2015.  Read more.

Grand Valley Student Named Point Foundation Scholar

Grand Valley student Xinyi Ou is one of 29 students in the U.S. to receive a scholarship from Point Foundation, an organization that provides financial support and leadership training to students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.  Ou, a double major in history and sociology, joins fellow scholar students from universities across the country, such as Harvard, Columbia, Stanford and Dartmouth. Freeman-ASIA Scholarship awarded to Grand Valley student

Grand Valley student Megan DeKievit, of Jenison, has received a nationally competitive Freeman-ASIA Scholarship to study music in Taiwan at the Mahidol University College of Music.  She will spend both summer and fall semesters at the college, which was established with an aim to produce music students of high quality, with good taste and with a social conscience. Math Major Earns Prestigious Scholarship

Kate Coveney, an applied mathematics major, received a competitive scholarship sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  Coveney, from Indianapolis, Indiana, received an $8,000 award for the next two years plus $6,500 to attend a 10-week summer session at a NOAA facility. Student earns Knowles Science Teaching Fellowship

When Carlee Hollenbeck was in elementary school, her parents would give her math problems to keep her entertained and busy. While they couldn't know it at that time, those problems planted seeds that served as the start of Hollenbeck's lifelong passion for mathematics.
