Funding Study Abroad
Congratulations on exploring study abroad! Studying abroad is a transformative experience. The Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships assists interested students with the application process for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships to, for example, help offset the costs of study abroad experiences.
Where to begin:
Plan Ahead! If you are thinking about studying abroad, you want to be thinking 6-18 months in advance. Often you will need to apply for a nationally competitive award up to a year in advance of when your study abroad opportunity will commence. If you are looking for immediate funding, you might need to consult with the Financial Aid Office instead, as applying for nationally competitive awards generally requires a substantial lead time.
Where do you want to go? Meet with the Padnos International Center to assist you with determining locations and costs to find the right fit for you, as well as provide you with a Study Abroad Information Packet to help get you started and organized.
Explore award opportunities. Nationally competitive award opportunities for study abroad are vast yet very specific. Please read through the Padnos International Center Study Abroad Page to find information about options for funding study abroad and programs with destinations around the world that may interest you.
Additionally you should:
- Enter “study abroad” in the keyword search box in the search field in the Outside Scholarships, Fellowships & National Awards database.
- Perform a Google! search.
- Check if any grants or scholarships are offered through your specific study abroad program.
After looking through the above resources:
