Deadlines for Current Students
Make sure you learn the steps you must take to successfully apply for financial aid and know the important deadlines and details for each step.
December:
Find your PIN. You and your parent(s) (if you are considered dependent) will refile
your FAFSA after January 1st.
Research scholarships. If you have a Grand Valley academic scholarship make
sure you will meet the minimum GPA and credit completion necessary for renewal
at the end of Winter semester. Utilize the GVSU Scholarship Search tool to find
scholarships. Don't forget to take advantage of the online search databases.
January:
You must refile your FAFSA each year to be considered for financial aid.
FAFSA available online. Make sure to list Grand Valley's school code (002268) on
your application.
Stay organized! Make a folder to keep all financial aid related information in one
place.
February:
Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to you via email or U.S. mail if you have filed your
FAFSA. Make sure you verify your information and make any corrections necessary.
If you find any errors you can fix them online through FAFSA.
GVSU scholarships typically have a February or March deadline. Be sure that you
meet application deadlines.
March:
March 1: FAFSA priority deadline. If you file after March 1, Grand Valley cannot
guarantee that you will be considered for all types of need-based aid.
March 1: Scholarship recipients: Be sure you are aware of your scholarship's
renewability criteria for the following academic year.
Spring/Summer application online. If you want to take classes in the
spring/summer you must file the Spring/Summer application. Additional
information about spring/summer aid is on this Web site.
April:
Correct your FAFSA. After you file your federal taxes be sure the information
matches your FAFSA.
Watch for follow up requests. Sometimes federal rules require our office to verify
information listed on the FAFSA. We will always mail this information to your
permanent address. Respond promptly to any requests.
May:
Award notifications sent towards the end of May. If your FAFSA is complete and
there aren't any outstanding financial aid requests, your award notification will be
mailed to your permanent address. Remember, your award is based on
full time enrollment.
Respond to your award on the My Banner system. Once you have reviewed and
understand what you are being offered, you must accept your award online. Complete
directions can be found here.
July:
Student ebills sent. Your financial aid will show as either a credit or authorized.
Both are acceptable and mean you have done everything you need to do. If your aid
is not showing, be sure to contact our office to fix the problem.
August:
The Fall bill is due. You would have been sent an email from the
Student Accounts Office in July. If you owe any money it MUST be paid by 5 p.m. on
the due date. If it is not paid your classes will be cancelled.
November
November 1: Scholarship recipients: Be sure you are aware of your scholarship's
renewability criteria for the following academic year.
