Transfer Students

Welcome to Grand Valley State University!  More than 20,000 GVSU undergraduates receive one or more types of financial aid, totaling $183 million a year. Financial aid refers to the wide variety of programs that help students and their families pay for college. It's available in three forms:

  • Grants and scholarships, which do not have to be repaid
  • Loans, which have to be repaid
  • Work-study, which provides aid in exchange for work, usually in the form of campus-based employment

You must complete the FAFSA in order to be considered for financial aid.  Almost all aid provided by the federal government is awarded based on your ability to pay for college. This is not to say, however, that all aid is need-based.

Since this is your first time at Grand Valley you need to review The Process of receiving aid at GVSU.  After that you should read the Types of Aid for which you will be considered.  Finally it is important that you learn how to Pay The Bill at Grand Valley.

The Financial Aid Office is here to help.  If you have any questions, please contact us at finaid@gvsu.edu by phone at (616) 331-3234 or toll-free (800) 748-0246.
