Financial Aid » The Process » Eligibility

Eligibility for aid is dependent on the type of aid you are applying for.

Federal Aid: FAFSA

FAFSA requires you have the following eligibility:

  • be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • be enrolled in an eligible program
  • have a high school degree or GED
  • be registered with Selective Service if you are male
  • have a valid Social Security Number
  • not have been convicted of a drug offense while receiving financial aid

There can be additional requirements.  Our office will contact you by mail or email if we need additional information.

State:

The State of Michigan has many financial aid programs for residents of Michigan.  Each program has different requirements.  More information on these programs can be found here.

GVSU:

All students at Grand Valley are reviewed for scholarships as newly admitted freshmen.  Current students also have scholarship opportunities.  Traditionally they are based on your academic major and require separate applications.  You can find more about scholarships on scholarship database.
