After decades of success as a manufacturing hub, West Michigan has the resources and infrastructure necessary to turn its vast freshwater resources into economic opportunities. These opportunities will:

• Support the state’s existing agricultural, tourism and recreation industries

• Spur entrepreneurship as the world seeks greater access to safe, fresh water

The campaign for the Robert B. Annis Water Resources Institute kicked off on September 6, 2012.

For 25 years, AWRI has been instrumental in positioning the region for the future by becoming nationally recognized for its expertise in freshwater research.

Through its research, the institute is not only able to preserve our own freshwater resources, but also share scientific solutions with people around the world.

AWRI Director, Al Steinman discusses the blue economy.

AWRI is housed the Lake Michigan Center built in 2001, a boat house, and what will be the new field station.

The institute has grown out of its existing facilities and has an urgent need to replace and expand the former field station to support large scale research.

By doing this, the research capabilities of the institute will significantly increase, and Grand Valley will be ready to help West Michigan take the lead on science and innovation for the blue economy, fulfilling its potential… and its promise.
