As part of Grand Valley State University’s family, Linda Rettig and her daughter, Jessica, are proud of the legacy they are leaving. Linda works as the Database Coordinator in the Office for Multicultural Affairs and Jessica is a freshman majoring in social work.
“GVSU is a family, and it is wonderful for generations of our own family to be a part of this larger body,” Linda said.
The Rettigs understand the importance of giving back to the university to continue its mission of providing excellent education, services, and environment for all students and staff.
“If the students need our help to come here and make a difference for our future, why would I deny that?” Linda said. “I believe that we have some of the best graduates around, and they go out into the world and do amazing things. The university also offers so much to their staff – they really take care of us like family.”
For Jessica, the generous donors who gave allowed her to receive a scholarship.
“I don’t have to worry as much thanks to the scholarship I received. I don’t have to stress about money problems or finding ways to get by. I can’t thank my donor(s) enough for what they have given me,” she said.
As their legacy continues to grow, the Rettigs recognize the continued need to give back to support the Grand Valley community.
“Every year our legacy builds,” Linda said. “We need to take care of our future generations. I give because it’s the right thing to do. If my children ever needed help, I would hope that someone would do the same for them. It’s just the right thing to do.”
