Dr. John Stevenson
John R. Stevenson, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, joined GVSU in August 2000 and is currently Professor of Physical Therapy in the College of Health Professions. He received his BA in Tudor & Stuart History and Literature from Vassar (1975), an MS in Physical Education from The Pennsylvania State University (1977), a PhD in Human Performance from Indiana University (1983), and his MS in Physical Therapy from Central Michigan University (1997).
Dr. Stevenson began his academic career as a sport scientist, became a professional ergonomist and then a licensed physical therapist (Michigan). His recent scholarship has focused on the use of trust in motor skill performance (golf skills), ergonomics and work injury prevention, and safe patient handling. Prior to joining Grand Valley he was a graduate faculty member in physical therapy and exercise science at Central Michigan University, founding director of the Biomechanics Laboratory at East Carolina University, and the initial coordinator of the graduate degree program in Exercise Science at Oakland University.
Dr. Stevenson served as Interim Dean of Graduate Studies during the 2009-10 academic year.
