Graduate Faculty Meeting, January 2013
On January 25, 2013 Grand Valley State University held the first ever meeting of faculty members involved in graduate education. The event was a joint effort of the Office of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Council, and the Graduate Student Association. Dean of Graduate Studies, Jeffrey Potteiger provided an historical overview of graduate education at GVSU, and where graduate education at GVSU is headed and what does GVSU need to do in order to provide high quality educational experiences to our graduate students. Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, John Stevenson shared the admission and graduation data from 2002-2012. Graduate Council Chairperson Mark Luttenton provided comments on the current and future activities of Graduate Council, GC Curriculum Sub-Committee and Policy Sub-Committee. Graduate Student Association President Austin Dean briefly described many of the activities that the GSA have been working on, with specific emphasis on advancements made in funding and governance. The last third of the meeting was devoted to an open question and answer period among faculty members and presenters. Estimates indicate there were approximately 100 individuals in attendance.
