This award intends to recognize Graduate students who demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of coursework and applies this knowledge to practice; take a leadership role and demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of the advising profession; foster student development (cognitive, career, identity, personal) through advising and strives to create effective advising partnerships with students. More information is available at www.miacada.org.

Additionally, John was awarded a MIACADA Graduate Student Professional Development Grant to cover the cost of conference registration. He was also selected as one of six students internationally to receive the NASPA Golden Key Scholarship to attend the Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. John serves as the Chair of the Social and Networking Committee within NASPA’s Student Affairs Partnering with Academic Affairs Knowledge Community and is proud to represent Grand Valley during the Annual Conference.

Dr. Donald Mitchell of the College of Education had this to say about John's accomplishments: "Every time I see John on campus, I ask him what award has he received this week. It's hard to keep up with all of the accolades John has received as a graduate student at GVSU. I've only been here since August 2012, and I am proud of him, and glad to have crossed paths with him.

The sky is the limit for this guy and I look forward to seeing where he lands. He represents the M.Ed. In Higher Education Program well."
