Abraham Lincoln - Democratic Statesman

February 9, 2009 - Steven Kautz, assistant professor of political science at Michigan State University, gave a talk at the Hauenstein Center's Lincoln Bicentennial Lecture Series. The Center's series was part of the annual conference of the Michigan Council for the Social Studies.

Lincoln is justly praised as among the greatest of those associated with the cause of popular government.  Kautz examined Lincoln’s democratic statesmanship, with guidance from Frederick Douglass’ penetrating analysis of that statesmanship in his 1876 “Oration in Memory of Abraham Lincoln.”
