  • Nursing Amendment
Did you know about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)? Section 7 of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which now requires that employers provide “reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for 1 year after the child’s birth each time such employee has need to express the milk.”  Employers are also required to provide “a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public, which may be used by an employee to express breast milk.”...

  • Rooms for Nursing Mothers
GVSU is striving to make it easier for nursing mothers to maintain breast-feeding after returning to work or school by providing private and comfortable rooms for nursing mothers.

GVSU recognizes the importance of supporting nursing mothers by providing space for mothers to express milk.   If you are having difficulty making arrangements, please contact Sue Sloop at Work Life Connections, 331-8011 or sloops@gvsu.edu.

  • Support for Working Mothers, Fathers, and Families
This brochure is a coordination of efforts between the GVSU Women's Center, Child Enrichment Center and the Work Life Connections program. Through this effort we hope to encourage, strengthen and support GVSU students, faculty and staff in their family life as well as their work life. This brochure provides the GVSU community with a snapshot of services that are available to support working mothers, fathers and families and promote, encourage and facilitate the development of a strong sense of family and community.

  • Baby Changing Stations
Baby changing stations have been added to male and female restrooms across campus. This has been done to serve the children of our faculty, staff, students and community members during working hours or for events that may be on campus.

For specific locations, please contact the Women’s Center at 331-2748 or womenctr@gvsu.edu.

  • Available Support Literature
Literature on topics ranging from expecting your first child, to potty training, a variety of materials are available to help you with the journey of all stages of life.
