Music Education

Why did you choose to attend Grand Valley?
I came here and I really liked the campus. And the school has a really good reputation and music program. Also, Grand Valley has a really good marching band for Division II and that was another thing that drew me here.

What do you like best about Grand Valley?
I like that classes are small enough that you get individual attention from professors. The professors care about what you want to accomplish and helping you get there.

How have you benefited from Grand Valley's liberal education foundation?
It has given me insight into subject matters outside of music. It helps me see how some of those aspects tie into other things I do. For example, different Honors courses on history or medical controversy open me up to different ideas and how they can apply to music.

How will Grand Valley help you meet your future goals?
It prepares me for when I go into my field to be ready to do what I have to do. Through different experiences provided on campus, I've learned what I will have to do as a teacher and what to expect in the future.

How has the Honors College enhanced your overall education?
The professors force you to think outside of the box, to think in ways that you might not have originally done. They also try to open your mind to a broader understanding and that impacts other classes. It impacts how you approach them and how you think of other subject matter.

How have you benefitted from living in Honors College housing?
It was nice having all of the facilities right there in the same building, especially having a computer lab. Also, for me the proximity of the performing arts building was very beneficial. I never had to walk far to the classes I had to attend.

Why would you recommend the Honors College to others?
I recommend it because one, it lets you think in different ways. And two, it lets you combine your gen eds which allows you the time to take a major that has as many classes as I have.
