Division of Inclusion and Equity



The Division of Inclusion and Equity and GVSU define diversity as broadly as possible. It includes, but is not limited to, the following categories: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, differently abled, age, class, religion, geographic and international. Diversity is the presence of difference. Inclusion requires genuine actions to achieve intercultural competence and a racism-free community. 

Intercultural competency reflects an understanding of the societal oppression often experienced by individuals in the groups listed above, the strengths that exist in all cultures and the skills to interact with others in a way that is sensitive to their cultural differences.

The mission of the Inclusion and Equity Division is to provide leadership in the development and implementation of a university-wide integrated approach to enhancing the intercultural competency of students, faculty and staff.
