Fire Extinguishers

Types of Fire Extinguishers:

  • Combustibles: wood, cloth, paper, rubber and plastics.
  • Flammable liquids: oil, grease and paint thinners.
  • Energized electrical equipment.

GVSU lab fire extinguishers are Type ABC, effective against Types A, B, and C fires.

The average fire extinguisher only operates about 10 seconds. Don't waste it!

HOW TO USE A PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

Remember the acronym, "P.A.S.S."

P Pull the Pin.
A Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the flames.
S Squeeze trigger while holding the extinguisher upright.
S Sweep the extinguisher from side to side, covering the area of the fire with the extinguishing agent.
