Computers are reserved for GVSU students, faculty, and staff on December 1 to 11 as students prepare for exams.


Borrowing Policies

A valid GVSU ID or a GVSU Alumni Association card is required to borrow books from Grand Valley State University Libraries.

Magazines and Journals

  • Magazines and journals may be checked out for 1 week with no renewals.
  • GVSU Alumni cannot check out Magazines and Journals.

Reference Materials

  • Reference materials held at Frey Foundation Learning Commons in the DCIH can be checked out for one (1) week.
  • Reference materials held at other library locations can only be used in the library.

Laptops

  • Laptops can be checked out for 4 hours and may be taken out of the building.
  • Laptops can be renewed once.
  • GVSU Alumni cannot borrow laptops.

  • General Collection Items:
    • Undergraduate Students: 1 renewal
    • Graduate students: 4 renewals
    • Faculty, Staff, and Retirees: 12 renewals
    • GVSU Alumni: 1 renewal
  • Popular Reading books: 1 renewal
  • MeLCat books: 1 renewal
  • Course Reserve items: No renewals

Holds

  • Books will be held for 7 days. MeLCat books will be held for 10 days.

Loan Limits

The University Libraries allows users to check out a number of items at once. Current limits are:

  • Undergraduate Students and Retirees: 50 items
  • Graduate Students, Faculty, and Staff: 100 items
  • GVSU Alumni: 10 items

Fines and Fees

  • The University Libraries does not charge overdue fines on materials. Borrowers will still be responsible for the replacement cost of items that are lost or damaged.
  • You will be charged $100.00 for lost or damaged items. 
  • You will be charged $1,000.00 for non-returned laptops.
  • You will be charged replacement cost for non-returned Digital Creator Lab or Library of Things items.
  • Overdue books or outstanding fees will prevent you from checking out additional items and may affect your ability to register for classes or graduate.
