Michigan Alternative & Renewable Energy Center
Research Projects
MAREC directs and participates in research projects with other organizations and commercial sponsors. Its collaborative approach is to bring proper expertise together to solve complex issues impeding renewable and alternative energy implementations. Research partners in addition to GVSU faculty include other major research universities such as University of Michigan and Michigan State University.
In reaching out to the international community, MAREC also recently signed a collaborative agreement with Spain’s national renewable energy center (CENER). We look forward to expanding and growing with these and other researchers interested in renewable and alternative energy solutions.

Development of electric vehicle (EV) charging station infrastructure in Muskegon region

Development of on-line Energy Monitor for Renewable Generation data
Establishment of large scale Dairy Biogas Plant
Pending Project:
Installation of meteorological wind measurement (MET) tower on Muskegon lakeshore
In addition to larger projects, MAREC collaborates with interests in the local community and region on energy related projects. MAREC also advises many businesses in their planning and research efforts and hosts a business development incubator program that houses and provides support for new business start-ups at the facility.
