German Honor Society

Delta Phi Alpha (German)

"The National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to man's eternal search for peace and truth."

Lambda Nu, the Grand Valley chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, was chartered in 2003. Induction ceremonies are held every spring.

 

Scholarships

Delta Phi Alpha offers several scholarships to recognize high-achieving Delta Phi Alpha undergraduate students. Further information can be found on the Delta Phi Alpha website.

 

Qualification for Student Membership

(a) A minimum of two years of college or university German or their equivalent with the attainment of sophomore standing and an official registration in an advanced course or its equivalent or corresponding advanced placement.
(b) A minimum average standing of B+ (3.3) or its equivalent in all German courses taken.
(c) A minimum of B- (2.7) or its equivalent in all courses of study at the college and university level.
(d) Indication of continued interest in the study of German language and literature.

National dues for regular members are $20.00. Each new member receives a certificate and honors cord.
