Fitnessgram

According to the NASPE PETE Standards all physical education majors should be able to demonstrate the following:

Physical education teacher candidates are physically educated individuales with the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards.

Physical Education Majors (K-12 Emphasis) will be required to complete the Fitnessgram assessment EACH academic school year.  The components include: aerobic fitness, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength and endurance.  For more information on the Fitnessgram test you can visit http://www.fitnessgram.net/home/

GVSU Physical Education Awards

Application for 2013-2014

Due April 15, 2013

There are a variety of awards/scholarships that are available each year.  You can apply for more than one award but you must indicate clearly on your application which award(s) you are interested.  You must have successfully completed all program requirements such as Fitnessgram, Dispositions, etc…

 

This application is for the following awards:

 

  1. GVSU Major of the Year
    • 3.5 GPA and 85 credit hours completed
    • Involvement with campus/major activities

 

  1. MAHPERD Major of the Year (2 awards given)
    • 3.0 GPA or higher
    • Must be Jr. or Sr. status
    • Must be a member or willing to join MAHPERD
    • Must show written record of  service (see below) to school and/or community  for a minimum of two years

  1. AAHPERD (NASPE) Major of the Year
    • 3.0 GPA or higher
    • Must be Jr. or Sr. status
    • Must be a member or willing to join AAHPERD/NASPE
    • Must show written record of  service (see below) to school and/or community for a minimum of two years
    • This award will be decided by GVSU Faculty and we submit your name to AAHPERD

  1. MAHPERD Scholarships- YOU WILL APPLY DIRECTLY TO MAHPERD FOR THIS ONE. Do not submit this information to GVSU. http://www.mimahperd.org/
  • Be a current member of MAHPERD
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Have at least junior status.
  • Have full time status (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Have proof of enrollment for Fall 2011(undergraduate or graduate) classes
  • Major in Physical Education, Health Education, Dance Education, Recreational Leadership or other allied fields
  • Be active in extracurricular, community, and leadership activities
  • Will need recommendation letters from GVSU Faculty

 

  1. Midwest AHPERD: The Outstanding Student Award provides the means through which the Midwest District AAHPERD recognizes an undergraduate student who has displayed distinctive leadership and meritorious service to his/her profession of health, physical education, recreation, dance, and/or sport.

    • All applicants must submit six typed and complete applications to the chair of the Midwest District AAHPERD Recognition and Awards Committee by August 15. Application materials should include:
    • Award Application Cover Sheet
    • Written documentation demonstrating compliance with the award qualifications (resumes not accepted), and
    • A current letter of recommendation from one of the applicant’s college/university instructors. The letter should be directly related to the award qualifications providing a biographical sketch outlining the contributions of the applicant and how those contributions are deserving of recognition.

 

In order to apply for any award (except #4 and #5), you must the compile the following information and it must be received in our office (MOV SCI main office attention: Ingrid Johnson) by April 15, 2013 in order to be considered for any of the awards. You will be notified by email by May 1, 2013.

  • Overall G.P.A.
  • Credit Hours Earned              
  • Two current letters of recommendations (at least one from a current college professor)
  • One copy of your most recent transcript/My Path (may be unofficial)
  • Resume

 

  • Complete a short biography of yourself. Follow the criteria below.  Please keep the bio to one page.
    • Criteria 1

Professional Service/Involvement: Identify the service activities that you have participated in at your College/University (or in the community setting) since the beginning of your college career. Wherever possible, indicate your specific contributions. Examples: Membership and involvement in service organizations, university committees, community agencies, etc.

  • Criteria 2

Awards/Honors: List any awards, honors, or special recognition that you have received during your college career.

 

  • Criteria 3

Extracurricular or other involvement: Indicate your degree of involvement in campus life by identifying other activities that you have participated in while a student.
