Author and professor Jim Goode will present a brief history of the Syrian community of Grand Rapids, one of the largest in the United States. In particular, he will discuss the patterns of emigration and immigration, and the economic and religious character of the community, focusing on the slow process of ethnic acculturation during which members developed a hybrid culture, drawing on elements of the old and the new.
