Faculty Advisors

When you declare a psychology major (Psychology, Biopsychology, Comprehensive Science & Arts for Teaching combined with Special Education (CSAT), or Behavioral Science (Psychology emphasis) you will be assigned a faculty advisor.  After you declare your major on Banner, you will receive an email from the Psychology Department with your faculty advisor's name, current office hours, phone number and email address.

Your faculty advisor serves as your mentor in regard to making major decisions about your career direction, choosing courses and experiences to enhance the knowledge and skills you will need in your specific career or graduate work, and helping you to plan the most effective strategy for graduate school admission.

Psychology faculty members' open office hours are posted each semester on their office doors, on our website and by calling the Psychology Department Office at # (616) 331-2195. You do not need an appointment to drop in during office hours. If it is not possible to meet with your advisor during their posted hours, other office hours may be available by contacting the professor directly by phone or e-mail.

Getting to know faculty members can be one of the most rewarding experiences during college for students and faculty, so do not hesitate to talk to your advisor.

Also, for any reason you can’t meet up with your assigned advisor, any of our Psychology Professors can advise. Please feel free to contact the Psychology Department and talk with a staff member if you are unable to get advising help.  It is very important to our department that all students get the advising help that they seek.

To ensure accurate advising, always bring a current copy of your MyPath Degree Evaluation when meeting with your advisor.
