Campus Recreation


Our instructors are able to teach to all fitness levels, therefore, all class formats are designed to meet the needs of beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants. Classes designed for specific experience levels are indicated in the description. All class formats are 45-minutes unless otherwise indicated.


Land Based Classes
Dance Studio B 160

Located in Fieldhouse

Ab Lab
Strengthen and tone your abs and lower back with this 30-minute class that focuses strictly on the abdominals.  Floor based exercises use mats, which are provided. You are welcome to bring your own if you wish.  Some small equipment like stability balls may also be used in this class.

Body Blast
This fast-paced class is geared towards the intermediate fitness level and incorporates a challenging and unique mix of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, resistance training, calisthenics, and innovative functional training.  Circuits, stations, or maybe even a bootcamp style workout - the instructor will always keep you guessing what's to come.

Butts and Guts
Develop a strong toned core and gluteus by utilizing equipment and your own body weight. Equipment that may be used over the course of the semester includes weighted bar, hand weights, resistance bands, towels, mats, stability balls, and steps.

Fitness Fusion
Fusing almost every class format into just 45 minutes, expect a workout that incorporates elements of Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, athletic conditioning, resistance training and more. Equipment that may be used over the course of the semester includes weighted bars, hand weights, resistance bands, towels, mats, stability balls, and steps.

Totally Toned
A resistance training class that utilizes a variety of equipment to enhance muscular strength and endurance.  Expect to leave class feeling stronger! Equipment that may be used over the course of the semester includes weighted bars, hand weights, resistance bands, towels, stability balls, mats, and steps.

TURBOKICK®
Turbo Kick is a class that utilizes movements from kickboxing, boxing, and hip hop style moves to create a constant “party” while you workout.  This fast paced, high-energy class is pre-choreographed and will keep you coming back for more!

ZUMBA®
ZUMBA® is a fusion of Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness class. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

Take your 45 minute Zumba class and add on a 15 minute Ab workout!

SPIN & TRX Classes
SPIN and TRX studio

Located on lower level of Recreation Center

Fat Burner
Exercising at lower heart rates helps to build an aerobic base and burn fat.  In this class expect to work at moderate intensity levels. This class format is essential element to anyone who rides multiple days per week.
Exercise intensity: 65-75% maximum heart rate.

Intro to SPIN* (Beginner Class)
Welcome to Spinning!  This class is a 30-45 minute tutorial class that is HIGHLY recommended to anyone new to SPINNING® to ensure safety and maximum fitness results. This class will familiarize new riders on how to properly set up their bikes, spinning techniques and terms, and how to monitor exercise intensity.
You will only need to attend the class ONE TIME and you will be ready to participate in other spin classes.

*This class is for the first 4-weeks only, it will be changed over to SPIN beginning February 11, 2013

Interval SPIN
Expect hills, jumps, runs, flats, and climbs with varying intensity levels.  This class is ideal for adding to your fitness foundation, burning calories, and pushing yourself to that next level!
Exercise intensity: 65-92% maximum heart rate.

SPIN
Instructor’s choice on this ride! You will get an overview of the class when you get there.  Each instructor is different so expect a different ride every time. 
Exercise intensity 50-92% maximum heart rate.

SPIN + Abs
A 30-minute SPIN ride is followed by 15 minutes of core work and stretching.
Exercise intensity of this ride is dependent on instructor’s choice of class format.

Strength
Steady, consistent pedaling with moderate to heavy resistances to develop the lower body muscles and challenge the cardiovascular system to promote power.  This class is ideal for becoming a stronger rider, as well as building to your already established fitness base.
Exercise intensity: 75-85% maximum heart rate.

Spin Yoga
A SPIN ride is followed by deep stretches inspired by yoga movements to increase flexibility, elongate muscles, release tension, deepen the breath, and improve posture.
Exercise intensity of this ride is dependent on instructor’s choice of ride.

TRX Suspension Training
This class introduces the fundamentals of TRX Suspension Training.  It aims to teach class participants how to correctly utilize the functional trainer with proper form.  Training on the TRX will be a challenging, fun, and educational experience for all levels of fitness and is geared for anyone looking to try something new.   VIEW A VIDEO CLIP TO SEE WHAT TRX IS ALL ABOUT

* We provide mats for initial visits but expect participants to obtain their own mats if they plan to attend regularly.

Pilates

Lengthen all the muscles of the core in a series of mat-based exercises.  This class is designed to focus on the deep muscles of the abdominals, back, hips, and glutes. Improve quality of movement, develop core postural muscles, stabilize the spine, promote good body mechanics, and increase mental relaxation. Yoga mats, Pilates rings, resistance straps, yoga straps, blankets, or foam rollers may be used over the course of the semester in this class.

PiYo
The best of both worlds! This class incorporates both Pilates and yoga into one class to strengthen, stretch and then relax the entire body. Yoga blocks, yoga mats, Pilates rings, resistance straps, yoga straps, or foam rollers may be used over the course of the semester in this class.

Restorative Yoga
Reduce stress and release tension from the body and mind by focusing on the restorative nature of yoga.  Postures are held longer, using the force of gravity to release tight muscles and activate a relaxation response.   Yoga mats, yoga blocks, yoga straps, and blankets will be available to participants for use in this class.

Yoga Flow
A dynamic flowing style of yoga that links breath and movement through a heat building sequence of postures.  Expect to move more quickly through poses than your traditional yoga class. Yoga mats, blocks, straps, blankets, and foam rollers may be used over the course of the semester in this class.

Yoga & Meditation
Give your mind as much attention as your body in Yoga & Meditation.  This class will begin with a yoga practice focused on developing strength and endurance followed by a meditation practice to encourage mental clarity and contentment.
