Applying to Graduate
When you are nearing the completion of your program - usually the semester before you plan to finish your degree requirements - you must file an application for graduation. There is no fee for applying to graduate. Submit your completed application to either of the Student Assistance Centers (150 Student Services in Allendale or 115C DeVos in Grand Rapids).
• If you fail to apply for graduation, your graduation date will be postponed.
• Students should apply to graduate for the term in which all degree requirements will be completed.
• Summer candidates are invited to participate in either the Winter or Fall commencement ceremony. Please note that your application for graduation should still indicate that you intend to graduate in the Spring/Summer semester even though you are planning to walk early. Commencement ceremony information can be found here.
Diplomas are mailed after students have been cleared by their major department and the degree has been posted to their transcript. This generally occurs within thirty days following commencement, but may take longer in some cases.
In all instances, the awarding of degrees is subject to the completion of degree requirements.
Diplomas are mailed to the address requested on the graduation application.
Diploma content: Student's name, Degree, and Date of Graduation. Note: Majors, minors and concentrations do not appear on the diploma.
Bachelor diplomas are 9 x 7
Master diplomas and certificates are 10 X 8
Doctoral diplomas are 11 x 14
