High School Seniors - Apply Now for the Dockeray Science Scholarships
Each year, the Mary Jane Dockeray Scholarships for Careers in Science are awarded to graduating high school seniors from public or private schools in the Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa Intermediate School Districts with an interest in pursuing a career in science. The scholarships can be used by the winners to help with expenses at the college or university of their choice.
For over 20 years, these scholarships have been administered by the Regional Math and Science Center at Grand Valley State University. The scholarships honor Dr. Mary Jane Dockeray, long-time naturalist and founding curator of the Blandford Nature Center in Grand Rapids.
The application process consists of submitting the completed application form, a personal essay, a high school transcript, and two recommendations in support of the applicant. One recommendation should come from a teacher at the student’s school and the other from someone not connected with the school. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of past academic achievement and their potential for success in a science career. Applications are due March 8, 2013.
Detailed information and application forms can be obtained by contacting high school counselors within the three counties listed above or by calling the Regional Math and Science Center at (616) 331-2267 or visiting the website.
