GenCyber Teacher Camp

The School of Computing at Grand Valley State University is excited to host West Michigan's GenCyber camp. 

What is GenCyber?

The GenCyber program provides cybersecurity experiences for students and teachers at the secondary level. The goals of the GenCyber program are to:

  • Ignite, sustain, and increase awareness of K12 cybersecurity content and cybersecurity postsecondary and career opportunities for participants through year-round engagement;

  • Increase student diversity in cybersecurity college and career readiness pathways at the K-12 level; and

  • Facilitate teacher readiness within a teacher-learning community to learn, develop, and deliver cybersecurity content for the K-12 classroom in collaboration with other nationwide initiatives.

The GenCyber program strives to be a part of the solution to the nation’s shortfall of skilled cybersecurity professionals.

2024 GenCyber Camp

No Prior knowledge of computers and cybersecurity is required. The GenCyber camp is designed to help teachers deliver cybersecurity content into their curricula more effectively. This is designed to introduce more students to cybersecurity fundamentals, concepts, and ethics, and the emerging world of virtual reality. 

  • The GenCyber teacher camp is open to high school teachers with diverse backgrounds in the U.S., with preference given to STEM teachers. 
  • Each teacher participant will receive a stipend of $1000 for attending and completing GenCyber activities.
  • Each teacher participant will develop lesson plans and implement them in classroom teaching.
  • Each teacher participant will be able to use the activities to count for Michigan State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) after completing the program and upon approval.
  • GenCyber is offered at no cost to all participants and lunch will be provided for all participants.

The camp includes 30 hours of pre/post camp activities and 30 hours of camp activities including instructions for lesson plans.
