Calendar for New Freshmen

Fall 2014

July, and August Attend orientation.
  Schedule classes recommended by Pre-major advisor.
  Begin working on the choosing a major by utilizing the MyPath Web site.

Transitions Pre-major (undecided) Workshop

This workshop will give you information about the academic advising process and introduce you to all the resources available to help you find a major.


August 25 Classes begin.
  Add/Drop week. Meet with a Pre-major advisor if schedule changes need to be made.
September and October Meetings with Pre-major advisor to discuss process and resources available to choose a major. (If you completed the choosing a major booklet, please bring it with you.)
September 2 Campus Life Night - Fieldhouse
Engagement is an essential part of the Grand Valley experience and attending the Campus Life Night event is the first step toward this goal. "Campus Life Night is an annual program that showcases registered student organizations, campus resources, non-profit agencies, and community businesses for students." Joining clubs and major-related professional organizations will also give you insight into majors you may want to pursue.
  Health Care Experience Workshop - Meet with Hospital Representatives from Spectrum Health and Saint Mary's Health Care. Find out about the application process for hospital volunteer positions, job shadowing, and employment.

If you have an interest in the following programs, you are encouraged to attend:  Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Communications, Medical School, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy,  Podiatry School, Radiation Therapy, and Therapeutic Recreation
November Identify two or three possible majors. 
November 5 Attend the Majors Fair.

Meet with different academic departments and alumni to learn about majors and careers.
December Determine strengths/weaknesses and interests based on 1st semester performance.
