What is a College Positive Volunteer?
A College Positive Volunteer is a college student who is aware of how they impact the college readiness and enthusiasm of the youth they interact with as they volunteer in local communities. The CSLC conducts CPV trainings with the aim to prepare you to be an effective college resource for the K-12 youth you work with and to always have the a college-going mindset. This training provides you with tools to encourage and help K-12 youth consider, plan for, and attend postsecondary institutions after high school. Efforts are often aimed at underrepresented youth, especially low-income and first-generation (or first in their families to go to college) students. However, the goal is college access for all. College Positive Volunteerism (CPV) is one of the many college access program in Michigan.
The CPV program includes training and curriculum supported by state and federal funding. It is a joint undertaking between MCC and the state's Martin Luther King, Jr.-César Chávez-Rosa Parks (KCP) Initiative as part of its KCP GEAR UP/College Day (GU/CD) Program within the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
