The Community Service Learning Center participates in the Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program and hosts clean-ups at least 3 times a year (April, July, September). Our 2-mile section is approximately 5 miles west of the GVSU Allendale Campus on M-45 starting at 96th Avenue.
Blood Drives On Campus (Monthly)
GVSU hosts blood drives with both American Red Cross and Michigan Blood each month. Click on the link for future dates and registration.
Community Outreach Week (Winter Semester)
This week of service is aimed at uniting Lakers from around the globe in providing volunteer support and outreach to their communities in ways meaningful to each individual or group. The Alumni Association and the Community Service Learning Center will be leading several projects throughout the week in West Michigan.
First Year Service Experience (Fall Semester)
The First Year Service Experience is an overnight trip exclusive to first-year students of GVSU. Each year we take 24 students out into the Grand Rapids, Michigan area to make a difference in the community. Students enjoy getting to know new people while participating in an intense 24-36 hour experience packed with learning, fellowship, and service. Do you think you can handle it?
Make A Difference Day (Fall Semester)
Come celebrating extraordinary deeds performed by ordinary people on America's largest national day of doing service. This event begins at Allendale's Campus Kirkhof Center. Volunteers will be bussed to various organizations in the greater Grand Rapids area.
MLK Day of Service (Winter Semester)
National Day of Service where volunteers across America serve in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. GVSU's service project is coordinated by the CSLC and the MLK Week Executive Planning Committee. Registration is required and will occur online. The goal of the event is to educate students about the Civil Rights movement as well as inspire them to serve their communities in the spirit of social change.
Non-Profit Volunteer and Internship Fair (Fall & Winter Semester)
The Non-Profit Volunteer and Internship Fair is an opportunity for students to connect with various agencies in the greater Grand Rapids area. Up to 50 agencies offering volunteer and/or internship opportunities will be present! Resumes and business attire are not required but may be appropriate for those looking for internships.
Overnight Service Trip (Fall & Winter Semester)
The Overnight Service Trip is an opportunity for GVSU students to come together for a 24 hour experience of service and fellowship. Each Winter Semester, 25 students head out into the community to make a difference.
Service Saturdays (Monthly)
Into the Streets is a periodic service opportunity sponsored by Alternative Breaks that introduces students to non-profit agencies in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Service Saturdays are especially geared towards students with little service experience or are interested in checking out a new community agency!
