John McMillian Lecture on Alternative Media

School of Communications students are encouraged to attend a presentation with John McMillian about the importance of alternative media and its origin in the underground press of the 60s. McMillian is a professor of history at Georgia State University and studies twentieth century social movements. His new book, Beatles vs. Stones, was released earlier this month and explores the complex relationship between two of the world’s most popular rock ‘n’ roll bands. His dissertation was developed into his first book, Smoking Typewriters: The Sixties Underground Press and the Rise of Alternative Media in America, and he is alos a founding co-edior of The Sixties: A Journal of History, Politics and Culture. McMillian earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2006, M.A. in history from Michigan State University (1996), and a B.A. from Michigan State’s James Madison College (1993).
