Volunteer for Student Scholarship Day!
Student Scholarship Day is a student and faculty-run event. In order to have a successful and meaningful Student Scholarship Day, more than 200 student volunteers are needed to make it happen. Similar to a conference, it is a day that celebrates student research and creative endeavors. Throughout the day poster presentations, oral presentations, creative displays and dance performances will showcase the many forms of scholarship that students have done over the course of the year. We need volunteers to fill two-hour time blocks.

Volunteer Learning Objectives
Students will gain an understanding of how the university celebrates and values academic and scholarly achievement.
Students will have the opportunity to collaborate and work effectively with their peers, faculty and staff on a large-scale, campus event.
By volunteering, students will aid in promoting service and support at university events.
Students will engage in learning outcomes outside of the classroom which support the idea of a liberal education.
Students will discover one way to give back to the Grand Valley community.
Students will gain a better understanding of communication skills important to a team setting.

Volunteer Job Descriptions
Registration:  The headquarters for the day is the registration table.  As a registration volunteer, you will register students, give out nametags, distribute schedules and handout thank you gifts.  You will be one of the first persons to welcome the presenters, faculty, guests, hosts and greeters to the Student Scholarship Day. This position keeps the day running smoothly.

Session Host: Throughout the day the classrooms will be used for the oral presentations. You will be in the classroom to welcome and introduce the student presenters just before they give their 15-minute presentations. In order to keep the presentations running smoothly, you'll have cue cards on hand to let the presenters know when it's time to wind down their talk. At the end of each presentation, you'll thank the audience and presenter for attending the event. A room greeter will be available to assist you as needed. This position supports the student presenters.

Greeter: Throughout the day there will be many people coming and going throughout the Padnos Center. Your job will be to welcome and direct guests and hand out the Student Scholarship Day abstract booklet. You will also assist the Session Hosts in closing and opening doors at the beginning and end of each presentation. In the event equipment is needed you will be the 'runner' that lets the registration table know assistance is needed. This position provides ongoing welcome and support to our guests..
