MSW Exam Prep Course

This two day course (June 7 and 8, 2013) is open to individuals that have graduated from an accredited MSW program. Individuals interested in taking the Association of State School Work Boards (ASWB) Clinical level exam for state licensure in Michigan would benefit from this 2-day workshop. The preparation will teach participants to apply the content learned in graduate coursework toward the exam. Individuals will be directed toward the most relevant information in four content areas. These areas include Human Development, Diversity and Behavior in the Environment; Assessment, Diagnosis & Intervention/Treatment Planning; Direct & Indirect Practice; and Professional Relationships, Values & Ethics. All content will be taught by 9 full time MSW faculty from Grand Valley State University School of Social Work.

Agenda for Two Day Workshop

3 Objectives:

1) Students will learn strategies that will increase their understanding of the exam questions

2) Students will express confidence in passing the exam

3) Student will demonstrate higher scores on their post-tests from their pre-tests.

Cost: $295 general, $275 for GVSU alumni with early registration - deadline is May 1, 2013. After May 1, cost is $315 for all.

                               ADVANCED STANDING STUDENTS WHO WILL GRADUATE IN WINTER 2014

As part of your MSW program, you will be required to participate in Field Education. Field Education will be an opportunity for you to apply social work knowledge, values and skills learned through course work in a real world setting.

Advanced Standing students complete 660 hours of Field Education over two consecutive semesters. On average, you can expect to spend approximately 21 hours each week at a Field Education agency.

All Advanced Standing students both full and part time intending to graduate in winter 2014 will begin Field Education II in fall 2013. For these students, Field Education Applications are due to the Field Education Office on Friday, May 17, 2013. Prior to applying for Field Education, you must attend a MANDATORY Field Education Orientation that will present information on the process of applying and interviewing for Field Education. Listed below are the dates and times for three Field Education Orientations, please send an email to Professor Debbie Ronk ( ronkd@gsvu.edu ) to RSVP for one of these Orientations.
