Student Life Student Employment Applications Due March 15!

The Office of Student Life employs more than 75 students to help support the offices and operations of the 2020 Information Desk, Community Service Learning Center, Event Services, Russel H. Kirkhof Center, Laker Leadership Programgs, Student Organization Center, Traditional Events and the Promotions Office. Complete job descriptions for available positions are found below.

Applications are open in ORGSYNC February 27-March 15. Interviews for selected applicants will take place March 13-April 12. Staff selections will be announced April 17 in the "NEWS" section of www.gvsu.edu/studentlife.

All new and returning Student Life staff are expected to participate in mandatory Student Staff Training August 15-16, 2013.


2020 Information Desk Assistant: Greet visitors and answer live, phone, and Web questions about GVSU and surrounding community. Strong customer service, phones, ability to handle money and problem solving skills are a must! Hours vary seven days a week.

Community Service Learning Center Consultant: Reception duties and office support for people seeking information about opportunities to serve. Responsible for maintaining volunteer opportunity files and program coordination. Outstanding customer service and phone skills are required. Must have basic office skills (typing, filing, organization, word processing). Will also run errands and work on special projects. Hours during daytime office hours MF and during special events.

Event Services Desk Assistant: Looking for students with excellent customer service and telephone skills for this high volume, high paced position. Multitasking is essential. Must be able to work between 8am and midnight. High energy and positive attitude a must!

Fraternity/Sorority Life Staff Assistant: Provides administrative support to the Coordinator of Fraternity/Sorority Life and Director of Student Life to support 30+ chapters, five councils and the initiatives of the Fraternity/Sorority Life Community. An average of 20 hours/week is needed to help with preparing reports, event support, and coordinating social media, email communication, and website content.

I am Grand Valley Staff Student Assistant
This team member coordinates the I am Grand Valley Leadership recognition campaign (including promotions, logistics of the nomination process, and leadership reception), Campus Leadership Week (held annually in January), and manages the social media campaigns for Laker Leadership Programs and other leadership development collaborations. This position requires a high level of work ethic and ability to work autonomously and efficiently on projects under the direction of the Assistant Director for Leadership and Service Initiatives. Prior knowledge of the Office of Student Life, I am Grand Valley Campaign, and Laker Leadership Programs is highly preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Preference will be given to a Public Relations major. Possibility for earning internship credit. Must be available during regular office hours (MF,8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.). Some evenings and weekends for event support. Average 10-12 hours a week (more hours closer to Campus Leadership Week & the I am Grand Valley Leadership Reception).

Kirkhof Center Building Manager: The Building Manager is the eyes and ears of the Kirkhof Center in the absence of fulltime staff. The Building Manager should be responsible enough to make good decisions in the time of crisis, stay alert, and help create a safe and clean environment for the Campus Community. Reliability, strong communication skills, and customer service skills required. Hours vary seven days a week.

Laker Leadership Programs Staff Assistant
This team member assists with special projects to support the Laker Leadership Programs including office work (maintain records, typing, etc.), event support, as well as assists with coordination of the Venderbush Leadership Lecture each semester. This position requires a high level of work ethic, strong office skills and ability to work autonomously and efficiently on projects under the direction of the Assistant Director for Leadership and Service Initiatives. Prior knowledge of the Office of Student Life, and Laker Leadership Programs is highly preferred. Must be available during regular office hours (MF,8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.). Some evenings and weekends for event support. Average 10 hours a week

Promotions Office Business Manager: Responsible for billing jobs, tracking expenses, and light receptionist duties. Coordinates digital displays and web ads. Outstanding customer service, ability to work with little supervision and familiarity with MAC computers. Hours vary but during regular office hours (M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

Promotions Office Graphic Artist: Graphic artists produce print materials (banners, flyers) Web ads, and other
media for student organizations and campus departments. Hours: Vary, but usually during regular office hours (MF,
8:00a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Must use Illustrator and Photoshop and provide work examples.

Student Life Front Desk: Meet and greet every visitor to the Office of Student Life. Hours are MF
8am 6pm. Provide support and services to visitors and office staff. Outstanding customer service and phone skills are required. Need self starters who can achieve great results with little supervision.

Student Organization Center Consultant: Meet and greet every visitor to the Student Organization Center. Provide support and services to over 300 registered student organizations. Develop and implement educational programs of interest to student organization leaders. Outstanding customer service and phone skills are required. Need self starters who can achieve great results with little supervision. Hours vary seven days a week.
