Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. During times of severe racial tension at a predominantly white university, ALPHA began as a social club which evolved into a literary society and transformed into the first Black Greek-letter fraternity.
