The GVSU Equestrian Team competes on the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association circuit. We are host to both a hunt (english) team and a stock (western) team. This is an overview of what the IHSA is...
· IHSA - overview
o Host school supplies horses
o Pull names/numbers out of a hat
o Get on just before class – team members adjust stirrups
o Ride in judged class – 1st through 6th gets ribbons
o Points add up throughout year
o High Point/Reserve High Point – the top 2 riders at the show (may include a ride-off)
o Point riders
§ Chosen by coach
§ Rides for individual points as well as team points
§ Team points add up and top 2 teams in region send team to zones
o 35 points move you up to next division – go to regionals
§ Open riders need 28 points to go to regionals
o Regionals --> Zones/Semi-Finals -->Nationals
