Community Organizations The Community Sustainability Partnership (CSP) is a coalition over 100 different businesses, institutions, and organizations throughout West Michigan, including Grand Valley State University, coming together to pledge a common goal of working towards a more sustainable future. The West Michigan Strategic Alliance is working to make West Michigan "the best place in the Midwest to live, learn, work, and play", using a sustainable development model. The West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) is a non-profit organization working to protect and enhance West Michigan’s natural and human environments by translating the concerns of people into positive action. The Michigan Climate Action Council (MCAC) is a group of many individuals from around the state with a wide range of backgrounds that among many other things, advise state and local government on measures to address climate change, and develop a comprehensive climate action plan with specific recommendations for reducing greenhouse gases in Local First encourages the development of a vibrant, sustainable West Michigan economy by promoting local business ownership, social equity, and environmental kinship through education, support and collaboration. The Muskegon Sustainability Coalition Following the example of leading communities elsewhere, and with a growing awareness of the importance of the principle of Sustainability in planning for the future of the Muskegon area, the participating members of the Muskegon Area Sustainability Coalition (MASC) come together as a body of community leaders with a common goal of advancing the principles of Sustainability throughout Muskegon County. MSU's Climate Teach-In on Global Warming This day-long event is part of a nationally organized effort to bring people together in the first 100 days of the new administration to discuss and learn about the complexity of the climate change challenge. Faculty, staff, students and other informed citizens act as panelists to highlight key considerations and lead discussions throughout the day. |
