Office of Sustainability Practices
Sustainability in Grand Rapids
The Office of Energy and Sustainability coordinates the City’s efforts in energy efficiency, sustainability, conservation and renewable energy. In doing so, the Office works with key staff from the Executive Office, Environmental Services, Water System, Community Development, Economic Development, Planning, Facilities/Fleet Management and many others. The focus of the Office of Energy and Sustainability has revolved around two major efforts that impact both the Sustainability and Transformation Investment Plans—strategic energy management and climate resiliency planning.
In recognition of the City of Grand Rapids’ leadership in preparing for the impacts of climate change, Mayor George K. Heartwell was selected on November 1st, 2013 as a member of President Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience.
