Machinist Apprenticeship

If you are interested, the first step is passing the basic skills assessment in: Reading, Arithmetic, Inspection and Problem Solving. BASIC PURPOSE:
To ensure that the employee receives the experience and training over three years to prepare the apprentice for a machinist position.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position has two major areas of focus, completing educational requirements of National Tooling and Machining Association and work experience at Autocam Corporation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Complete educational requirements of NTMA to include a broad spectrum of knowledge.
Key Measurements
¨ Understand safety parameters of machines and the manufacturing environment.
¨ Learn precise measurement and layout.
¨ Understand pedestal and bench grinders, drilling machines, hand tools and bench work.
¨ Understand saws, milling machines, lathes, surface grinders.
¨ Understand Hurco Conversational mill, Charmilles EDM operation, Mazak CNC turning center, Brown & Sharpe CMM machinery.
¨ Understand fundamental concepts:
Shop math, blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, metallurgy, Machinery’s Handbook
2. Complete 8,000 shop hours on machines.
Key Measurements
¨ Understand equipment familiarization-inspection-safety.
¨ Understand milling machines and lathes.
¨ Understand automatic screw machines, i.e., operation, adjustments, tool changing, tool setting, set-up, maintenance.
3. Complete Autocam required training.
Key Measurements
¨ Complete Tornos Program.
¨ Complete Statistical Process Control.
¨ Complete Team Problem Solving.
¨ Complete the Apprenticeship Orientation.
