Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Studies Minor

The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department provides students:

  • An interdisciplinary program of study grounded in the liberal arts
  • A culminating academic experience through which students link the insights of separate courses 
  • Opportunities to apply theory to meaningful research or action projects, including internships, field work and service learning

Minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Studies

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) studies minor is an integrative, interdisciplinary program that examines issues and debates about sexuality and gender. Engaging in the analysis of the intersection of sexuality and gender with race, class, and national identity, LGBTQ studies equips students with critical thinking, writing, and leadership skills that will prepare them for a wide range of fields.

Learn more about requirements for the LGBTQ studies minor in the Catalog. Students pursuing the minor complete at least 21 credits, including the following core courses:

Core Courses

WGS 224 Introduction to LGBTQ Studies

WGS 365 Queer Theory

WGS 491 Contemporary Theory and Practicum

For the remaining 12 credits, students can choose from a wide range of courses within WGS, courses cross-listed with other departments, and others approved for meeting program requirements.
