Fall 2006 WISE events and adventures: WISE Photo Gallery Fall 2006 LATEST EVENT: Homecoming 2006. WISE hosted GVSU chemistry Alumna Ann Visser (BS, CHEMSITRY 1997, PhD U of Alabama 2002). We had a pizza party social for Ann. Students had time to ask questions about internships, careers in the sciences, graduate school, jobs etc. Thanks to all who made this reception possible! ICE CREAM SOCIAL: WISE students hosted an ice cream social for faculty and staff to stop by and get a tour of the building and socialize. The Great room was decorated thanks to much late-night hard work by WISE students- we all loved the monkey-jungle theme! Here's the album: Photo Gallery WISE MOVE-IN: August 22, 2006 We were fortunate to have the "Helping Hands" volunteers from Housing, Faculty, Deans, Staff, and other volunteers to carry things in, help find rooms, build lofts, visit with parents and help to make the big Move-in day an exciting event. It's amazing all the things that can fit into a dorm room! Here are a few pictures of families, vans, boxes and "Helping Hands". Photos of WISE move-in WISE Field to to Grand Haven, MI: Water Resource Institute research vessel D.J. Angus: August 23, 2006 WISE students set sail aboard one of GVSU's research vessels from the Grand Haven MI port. We went out on two excursions, one group sampled the waters of Lake Michigan, while another went inland to Spring Lake. We collected data on water clarity, pH, temperature, aquatic organisms, dissolved oxygen and made many scientific observations while enjoying a day out on the lake. WRI boat trips: Photos WISE Allendale Campus Orientation: August 24, 2006 WISE visited the Zumberge library, the Women's Center, the Writing center and the Science math advising resource and transition center (SMART) as we learned about these valuable campus resources and received gifts such as brains from SMART and cookies from the Women's Center!
