Fall 2013 ATHENA featuring Jeanne Englehart! ATHENA Connections offers the ability to: 1. Learn more about women in leadership 2. Meet potential employers and role models 3. Network with the community 4. Develop steps to becoming an authentic leader Students also get the opportunity to be seated at tables with women leaders from the community for conversation over light hors doeuvres. This year, we were blessed to hear not only a wonderful story, but also great life advice about being a leader from our speaker Jeanne Englehart! 6

Girl Scouts STEM Fall 2013 Our second annual Girl Scouts STEM College Readiness Experience was held on Saturday, October 12. This partnership between the Womens Center, Physics Department, Womens Leadership House, and Women in Science and Engineering brings 50 Girl Scouts to campus in order to engage in fun science activities and interact with current women college students. 11

Ready to Run Campaign Training for Women 2013 Ready to Run is a nonpartisan campaign training program for women, providing training on the pragmatic skills needed to run for public office or work on a campaign. The 2013 training was held on April 19 and 20, 2013. 11
Girls on the Run 5k 2013 Allegan & Ottawa County Girls on the Run 5k 2013 event was held on May 17. There were over 1,500 participants! 9
That Takes Ovaries! 2013 That Takes Ovaries!: Bold Women, Brazen Acts is a play co-written by Rivka Solomon and Bobbi Ausubel. The play offers an exciting collection of real-life stories from women and girls about the gutsy, outrageous, courageous things they have done. The stories are multicultural, funny, sassy, and touching true tales of estrogen-powered deeds. The play also includes true stories submitted by our own GVSU campus and community! 26
Indulge in a Cause 2013 All-you-can-eat chocolate desserts and a silent auction highlight a fundraiser that takes place every February to benefit Grand Valley State Universitys Womens Center. Proceeds from the event benefit the Womens Center Program and Endowment Funds. 23
Women's Center Virtual Tour During the Academic Year (end of August - April), the Women's Center is open Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 6:00pm and Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. During the Summer, we're open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5 pm. We are located in the Kirkhof Center building: 1201 Kirkhof Center. 8

Pushing Boundaries and Leading A Bold Life (TTO 2012) Pushing Boundaries: An Ovarian Gathering took place on Sunday, December 4, 2011 for all the activists and directors involved in the February 2012 production of That Takes Ovaries. On Monday, December 5, 2011 the Women's Center hosted Leading A Bold Life, a campus wide TTO reading and open mic event, with TTO book contributor Cecelia Wambach. 15

Food Pantry Donations We extend a big THANK YOU to the Seidman College of Business and the Student Services Division for generous donations to the Student Food Pantry. Their support allows us to maintain this important resource for students. 2
Celebrating Women Awards 2011 Each year, the Women's Center recognizes outstanding women students at the Women's Commission, Celebrating Women Awards. In 2011, Women's Center staff member, Jo Ann Wassenaar, was also recognized by the commission for her work on campus. 3

Women's Center Art Reception 2010 Each year, the Women's Center puts out a call for works of art to be displayed in our space. The center believes that the function of art is to challenge our perceptions and to help us create new meaning and understanding. The Women's Center is committed to using art as a form of expression for women. The exhibit focuses on a small number of student works that celebrate and highlight women's diverse experiences. 5

Celebration of Women Awards 2010 The Celebration of Women Awards was held on Thursday, April 1st. This event is sponsored by the GVSU Women's Commission. The mission of the GVSU Women's Commission is to ensure an environment that supports the rights of all women at the university. The commission is committed to working in partnership with the university on developing policies that remove barriers that impede women's learning, professional growth, creativity, employment, and society. As part of their work on campus, the Women's Commission annual recognizes women students, faculty, and staff who have made outstanding contributions to GVSU. 11
EqualiTea 2010 On Tuesday March 23rd, the Women's Center held its annual EqualiTea. The event is a celebration of the centuries-old tradition of combining tea parties with discussions of literature, politics, and reform. There was entertainment, food, and an opportunity for interaction among diverse participants. "Crumpets for conversation" are a tradition at the tea and engage participants in small groups. This year, the dialogue centered around two pieces from the play Rent which were performed at the event. 9
Indulge in a Cause 2010 Indulge in a Cause, the Women Center's annual fundraiser, took place on February 18. The event featured a silent auction and a chocolate dessert buffet. The proceeds of the event go towards Women Center's programs and the endowment fund. 5
