Status of Lake Sturgeon in Muskegon River System

Objectives:

The purpose of this project is to investigate the early life history of a remnant population of lake sturgeon in the Muskegon River.  Specific objectives are to:

  1. Determine areas where lake sturgeon spawning occurs and quantitatively define demographic attributes of spawning adults
  2. Monitor annual recruitment success of lake sturgeon and assess potential factors influencing drift dynamics
  3. Determine the extent and duration of young-of-the-year and juvenile lake sturgeon residence in Muskegon River and Lake through assessing spatial and temporal distribution
  4. Describe growth and habitat use of juvenile lake sturgeon
