Michael P. Lombardo, professor of biology, was interviewed on KTCK Radio in Dallas, Texas, for a story about the existence and implications of innate talent in sports.
Ross Sherman, associate professor of movement science, received a grant from the International Society of Sports Nutrition-MusclePharm for a research study, “Effectiveness of Branched-Chain Amino Acids and Taurine to Reduce Muscle Soreness and Improve Recovery Following Eccentric Exercise.” He also gave a presentation, “Hydration Status During Consecutive Two-a-Day Practices in Female Collegiate Soccer Players,” at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
Michael P. Lombardo, professor of biology, and Robert O. Deaner, associate professor of pyschology, co-wrote an article, “You Can’t Teach Speed: Sprinters Falsify the Deliberate Practice Model of Expertise,” published in PeerJ. Lombardo also co-wrote an article with a student, “Scientometric Analyses of Studies on the Role of Innate Variation in Athletic Performance,” published in SpringerPlus.
Lisa Sisson, assistant professor of hospitality and tourism management; Lara Jaskiewicz, assistant professor of public, nonprofit, and health administration; and Danielle Lake, assistant professor of liberal studies, gave panel presentations, “The Wicked Dimensions of Access: Food Hubs and Gentrification in Grand Rapids, Michigan,”at the 2014 joint meeting of the Association for the Study of Food and Society and the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society.
Bopi Biddanda, professor of water resources, gave a presentation, “Carbon Cycling Studies in the Laurentian Great Lakes,” at the Center for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, in Bangalore, India.
Cynthia Coviak, associate dean for nursing research and faculty development, received a grant from the HRSA Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship Program.
Martin Burg, associate professor of biomedical sciences, gave a presentation, “Characterization of Histidine Decarboxylase Bearing an Internal FLAG Epitope in Drosophila melanogaster,” at the Annual Drosophila Research Conference in San Diego, California.
