Grand Valley’s Sustainable Agriculture Project, located on Luce St. in Allendale, is expanding its space by adding a herb garden and various trees.
The garden will include a mix of herbs, flowers and berries, said Youssef Darwich, president of Farm Club. “It will be irrigated with an underground sprinkler system that will be fed from rain barrels that capture water from the roof,” he said.
Members of Farm Club will also be planting hundreds of cloves of garlic and preparing to extend the growing season into the winter by installing low tunnels over the beds to grow kale and spinach.

The initiative is a collaboration between students, faculty and staff to experience sustainable agriculture. The project began with a group of students in 2008 and has expanded in the past few years to include a variety of different projects.
