USER ID (G Number) and PIN FAQ

What is my USER ID (G number)?
The USER ID (G number) is your student identification number that was issued to you by the Records Office. The USER ID (G number) is a new student identification number starting fall 2007 due to converting to the banner system. If you do not know your USER ID (G number) you can contact the Records Office at 616-331-3327.

What is my PIN?
The first time you log into banner the PIN is your birthdate (mmddyy). Once you log in you will receive a message stating expired. You will need to change your pin number from your birthdate to whatever you would like your PIN to be.

What is the difference between my USER ID (G number) and my student number?
The USER ID (G number) is your student identification number that was issued to you by the Records Office. The USER ID (G number) is a new number starting fall 2007 due to converting to the banner system. If you do not know your USER ID (G number) you can contact the Records Office at 616-331-3327. The student identification number on the previous system would have been your social security number unless you requested it to be changed through the Records Office.
From now on you will be using your USER ID (G number) instead of your previous student identification number. The USER ID (G number) provides protection to you since we are no longer using your social security number.
I cannot log into banner because it will not accept my USER ID (G number) or PIN combination.
First, double check to be sure you are entering the correct USER ID (G number) and PIN. Second, if you have made three or more attempts to log in, you may have been locked out of the system. The reason for this is to provide protection to you in the event someone else is trying to sign in under your student identification number. You will need to contact the Records Office at 616-331-3327 during business hours to reset your account.
