- This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA). Science electives must be selected from different disciplines. Humanities electives must be selected from different disciplines. Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements. GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.

Students must earn a minimum grade of C (2.0) and not have repeated the following GVSU courses (or their transfer institution equivalents) more than once: BIO 104, PLS 102, PSY 101, PSY 303, SOC 101, SW 150, SW 300 , and SOC 105. All social work majors must formally apply to the School of Social Work at the end of their sophomore year. There is no winter admission.
Students may take SW 300 (offered at GVSU) concurrent with BSW program classes; all other candidacy courses must be completed with a C or better prior to beginning the program. The BSW program begins each fall semester and is a 2-year program.
Grades earned at another institution in these courses will be considered for admission into the School of Social Work and must meet the grade and repeat criteria indicated above.
ADMISSION AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
The Social Work major is a secondary admission program, which only admits students one time per year. This means that although you have been admitted to GVSU, you must meet certain criteria before you are admitted (also called candidacy) into the School of Social Work. All Social Work majors who will satisfy the candidacy requirements prior to program entry, must formally apply for Candidacy into the School of Social Work’s Baccalaureate program prior to the application deadline for fall semester entry. More information, including the Candidacy application packet and deadlines are posted online at www.gvsu.edu/ssw. The Candidacy requirements can be found at: https://www.gvsu.edu/ccpsadvising/swcandidacy
