Digital Literacy in the Age of AI

A critical gap is emerging between the sophisticated AI systems companies acquire/create and the digital literacy of their employees. This divide threatens to undermine the potential of these advanced AI technologies: It may not matter how productive your AI technologies is if your people are not able to use it.

Digital literacy is about the ability to navigate, evaluate, understand and engage with digital technologies. Traditionally, the digital literacy was about learning database, text editing tools, search engines, etc. In the age of Digital Transformation and AI, this definition significantly expands to cover understanding AI tools, their ethical implications, the risks and benefits about their adoption, and being able to leverage AI responsibly.

GVSU College of Computing is offering new courses, certificates and degrees open for non-computing and adult learners around AI Ethics/Bias, Generative AI, Business Implications of AI, Leadership and Cultural Changes with the AI Evolution, etc.

Presenter:

Jared Moore, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Outreach, GVSU College of Computing
