The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Grand Valley State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank starting August 6, 2021. Grand Valley State University is a public institution with 21,112 undergraduate and 2,921 graduate students located in the Grand Rapids, Michigan region. The university is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse environment for faculty and students while promoting enrichment of society through excellent teaching, active scholarship, and service. The Biomedical Sciences Department has approximately 1,100 undergraduate majors and 43 full-time faculty members. It also has an expanding Master’s degree program with both thesis and non-thesis students. We offer a variety of courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nutrition and neurosciences that support our Biomedical Sciences majors, as well as courses that support other health science majors.
We seek faculty who have experience working with diverse student and community populations as well as in new and emerging fields that can contribute to diversifying the expertise in our department. We especially encourage candidates to apply who have research and teaching interests with the potential to engage the West Michigan community to address regional and national health disparities.
Applicants with interests in teaching nutrition and/or human anatomy and physiology courses and associated labs are highly encouraged to apply. Faculty area of research emphasis may be diverse, although we encourage candidates whose research is in the area of digestive physiology or nutritional sciences to apply. The successful candidate must have obtained a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a science or health-related field from an accredited institution. ABD with a completion date by December 2021, will be considered.
Tenure-track duties include a 9 contact hour teaching load per semester, as well as scholarship/research productivity with students, and professional/public service. The option to teach in the summer months is also ordinarily available.
