If your future Laker is considering transferring from another school, the following steps will help you guide them through their discovery of Grand Valley. Then use the resources listed below to give them a closer look at academic programs, campus life, and more.
STEP 1
Fill Out the Referral Form
Please fill out this brief form to tell us more about you and your prospective student. This begins the referral process.
Step 2
Engage with GVSU Resources
Our virtual viewbook tells the GVSU story with photos, videos, and an interactive map of campus. Visit our transfer student resources to discuss why students should choose GVSU.
Step 4
Encourage the Student to Apply
If your future Laker is ready, encourage them to start the application process. Ask them to consider applying 30 days before the start of the semester for which they intend to start to ensure we have time to process their application. Applying early also allows plenty of time to schedule an Orientation session where they'll register for classes.

Course Equivalency
Prospective students can use the course equivalency guide to learn how their courses will transfer to GVSU.
MTA/MACRAO
Some transfer students may be working toward completing a series of courses to satisfy the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) or MACRAO Transfer Agreement. Students can learn more about how the MTA or MACRAO credential would impact their GVSU experience.
REVIEW MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
There are a wide variety of merit-based scholarships for incoming transfer students. Most require high academic achievement and are automatically awarded to admitted students based on information they provided in their admission application, like their GPA. Note: transfer student merit scholarships have specific deadlines based on the semester for which a student intends to start at Grand Valley.
