Professor examines transgender experience via film in new book

Cáel M. Keegan, assistant professor of women, gender, and sexuality studies and liberal studies, has a new book, Lana and Lilly Wachowski: Sensing Transgender , now available through the University of Illinois Press. In this publication, Keegan examines Lilly and Lana Wachowski, the visionary directors behind such influential films as Bound, The Matrix, and Sense8, and explores the Wachowskis' films as an approach to trans* experience that maps a transgender journey and the promise we might learn "to sense beyond the limits of the given world."

Sensing Transgender was listed by the Lambda Literary Awards for significant LGBT Studies releases in November 2018. Keegan was recently interviewed for Advocate magazine, and he's presenting at a number of events and conferences including the National Women's Studies Association Annual Conference, the American Studies Association, and Society for Cinema and Media Studies Annual Conference.
